Arlene Keizer, author of\u00a0Black Subjects: Identity Formation in the Contemporary Narrative of Slavery, is professor of English and African American Studies at the University of California, Irvine. In her talk, she will discuss the problems of ironic humor in contemporary work\u00a0featuring the black female body such as\u00a0Suzan-Lori Parks’ play *Venus*, damali ayo’s “living flag: panhandling for reparations”, and Kara Walker’s \u00a0“A Subtlety.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
