INOWAS Team

It has been a while since the last post and because our team is now (almost) complete, we would like to introduce to you the people behind the scenes at INOWAS:

2014_10_23_inowas_team

Since mid of September 2014 Jana Ringleb is our youngest member in the INOWAS Junior Research Group. Jana is 25 years old and wrote her Master’s Thesis in Geoecology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, which she successfully graduated in March 2014. She is interested in solving hydrological and hydrogeological challenges using computer models and that is her major contribution to the project. Jana is a sportive woman who enjoys walking, rock climbing and badminton. You can check her full profile here.

Aybulat Fatkhutdinov joined our project at the end of July 2014 for the next four years. ‘Bulat’ is 26 years old and graduated last October the TU Dresden’s international Master’s course “Hydro Science and Engineering”. Born in Ufa, Russia, Bulat is interested in groundwater – surface water interactions, unsaturated zone flow and application of remote sensing in hydrological investigations and is in charge with the development of the knowledge base platform. You can check his full profile here.

Jana Sallwey was the first to join our Junior Research Group since the very early beginning. Jana S. is 29, graduated in Hydrology at TU Dresden in January 2011 and makes a perfect team with Jana R. She is interested in managed aquifer recharge with focus on modelling of groundwater and vadose zone. When she’s not in front of her monitor Jana plays guitar and she likes to get inspired by intercultural exchanges. You can check Jana’s profile page here.

Thomas Fichtner joined the team in June 2014 and he is the guy who knows how to fix things. Thomas is 38 years old and got his Diploma in Hydro Sciences at TU Dresden in 2006. After accumulating lot of experience several research projects, he is now in charge for the experimental laboratory and field work in the INOWAS project. In his free time, Thomas loves to be in the nature, riding his bike or taking care of his bees. Click here to visit Thomas’ profile page.

By far the most cheerful person in our group, Jingxing Guo started to work in our project as research assistant in May 2014. ‘Jing’ or ‘Juan’, as we call him sometimes, was born in China 29 years ago and beneath various works in the project he supplies the group with excellent handmade Chinese food. You can check Jing’s full profile here.

The world would not be the same without Claudia Schönekerl, the person who takes good care of our money, contracts, deadlines, almost everything. Claudia is 35 and got her Diploma in Hydro Sciences at TU Dresden in 2002. After graduation, she worked in several research projects at TU Dresden and later broadened her horizon by working for regional environmental authorities. Claudia is a supporter of the most popular football team in Dresden: SG Dynamo Dresden.

Catalin Stefan is the man behind the wheel and the leader of our group. After getting his PhD in groundwater management from TU Dresden in March 2007, Catalin contributed to various research projects at the Institute of Waste Management and Contaminated Site Treatment. He is in charge with the general project coordination and he is very proud of his collection of about 4000 soil samples from all over the world. You can check Catalin’s profile here.

Last but definitely not least, we are happy to have in our group Miguel Moreno who is not officially part of the project but we love him very much for his Mexican food and because he has the longest name among us: Miguel Alonzo Moreno Gomez. Miguel was born in Yucatan province, Mexico, and by the time of publishing this article, he is writing his Master’s Thesis. We all hope that his application for PhD scholarship will be successful so that he can stay with us for the next three years.
