The aim of the event was to discuss methods and model concepts (i.e. uncertainty of hydrological models, multi-scale hydrological modeling, soil hydrological modeling, modeling of sediment and solute transport, ecohydrological modeling, and parameterization of hydrological models) in order to address scientific problems in the field of hydrology.

Besides various fruitful hydrological results, during the first two days’ presentation and poster sections, a few questions about the uncertainty of climate change have been announced for the local and global water resource management – for example, the reasons for the difference in the local and global rainfall distribution, the uncertainties in climate change impact assessment. These have greatly lighted our attention to the butterfly effect on the global hydrological system issues. On the third day of this workshop, the participants were shown around the “Wasserspiele” in the Bergpark of Wilhelmshöhe, a water-play station, which exhibits the excellent wise for water supply 300 years ago.

Last but not least, this workshop was also a good chance for young researchers to share the valuable experience, which they derived from the various on-going and finished projects.

On behalf of INOWAS team, the workshop was attended by our colleague Jinxing Guo who introduced the project to the audience and also gave a presentation entitled “Hydrological Regime Simulation of Earth Dams and Dikes using the Program PCSiWaPro® as a Basis for Stability Analysis”.

The 11th PhD Workshop on Hydrological Modeling (AG HYDMOD) was held at the University of Kassel between 15 – 17th May, 2014. 25 PhD students from 15 universities in Germany have attended this workshop organized in a casual atmosphere.
