groningen-university

The goal of this Winter School, held at the University of Groningen in January 2015, is to show the relevance of narrative theory and its methods of analysis for literary/art studies and in various professional contexts.

The kinds of narratives participants will work with include a variety of genres and media. Particular attention will go to theoretical and methodological issues, and to application possibilities.

The lectures will be given by some of the most prominent theorists in the field of narratology, showcasing cutting-edge research in the field of narratology. The students will be expected to apply their acquired knowledge in an assignment, which they will present at the end of the week.

What do individuals and collectives ‘do’ through their uses of narratives, be they fictional or non-fictional? The Winter School will in particular zoom in on the following topics:

  • Narratives and the negotiation of values;
  • Narrative across media;
  • Narrative and fictionality;
  • Narrative and the representation of consciousness.

Date: 25-30 January 2015
