Upcoming Guest Lecture: Prof. Julia Leyda
Julia Leyda, Guest Professor at the Graduate School for North American Studies at the John F. Kennedy Institute, will visit Dresden on 26 October. As a special guest to the TU Dresden’s North American Studies Colloquium, Prof. Leyda will present a paper entitled “Machine Cuteness and Sociability in Contemporary U.S. Culture”. Julia Leyda has published widely in contemporary Film, Television, and Media Studies and in American Studies. In addition to articles in journals such as American Quarterly, Comparative American Studies, Cinema Journal, Jump Cut, and Television and New Media, she has edited several books, including Todd Haynes: Interviews (UP of Mississippi, 2014), Extreme Weather and Global Media (with Diane Negra, Routledge, 2015), Post-Cinema: Theorizing 21st-Century Film (with Shane Denson, REFRAME, 2015), and The Aesthetics and Affects of Cuteness (with Joshua Dale, Joyce Goggin, Anthony McIntyre, and Diane Negra, Routledge, 2017). Based previously at Sophia University in Tokyo for ten years, she has also been a fellow with the Popular Serialty Research Unit (PSRU) at Freie Universität Berlin since May 2015.
